On December 4, SureCost will host its annual webinar on pharmacy purchasing challenges in the new year. Navigating 2025 Pharmacy Procurement Trends will examine the issues pharmacies can expect to face while outlining strategies to overcome the myriad of adverse impacts.

This blog post summarizes some topics we’ll cover on December 4. Be sure to register for the webinar to see the whole picture and prepare for what’s ahead.

2025’s New and Familiar Issues

Pharmacies will contend with both new obstacles and familiar challenges in 2025. Yet “familiar” doesn’t mean “the same.” For example, as raw material shortages and artificial demand drive drug shortages, pharmacies must find better insight into supply chain shortages. They’ll also need reliable tools to easily leverage the full market to find alternatives

At the same time, pharmacies must do everything possible to maintain their staff as pharmacy staffing shortages remain high. We’ve seen a significant rise in burnout. Fewer candidates are applying to and graduating from pharmacy schools. Technology that drives efficiency and reduces tedious, time-consuming tasks is no longer a luxury; it’s how pharmacy leadership can lighten the load for their teams and empower them to get back to helping patients.

One new development in 2025 will be the expansion of the Inflation Reduction Act, which will increase drug prices even more. The IRA will lower manufacturers’ prices on Medicare-covered drugs, meaning they will compensate with measures that will drastically cut pharmacy margins. Rising drug prices are nothing new, but the full impact of this latest factor driving price spikes remains to be seen.

Strategies for Success in 2025

The IRA is a complex piece of legislation, which we’ll explore in our webinar as part of a deep dive into all these challenges and strategies to prepare for and overcome them in 2025.

Consolidate Purchasing

Pharmacies need more options for available products and alternatives to compensate for rising costs and respond to product shortages. That means the ability to shop an expanded vendor portfolio while easily comparing all their catalogs—without compromising primary vendor compliance.

Our webinar, Navigating 2025 Pharmacy Procurement Trends, will walk through the advantages of unifying purchasing data and the procurement process into a single interface. More importantly, we'll show you what to look for when you’re ready to leverage unified purchasing.

Enable Data-driven Decision Making

“Knowledge is power,” and with all the issues facing pharmacies, you need as much of it as possible. That’s why it’s crucial to understand every decision you make and the impact on your patients, staff and bottom line.

Our webinar will explain data-driven cost management and efficiency practices, such as:

  • Compliance optimization
  • Rebate maximization
  • Intelligent, flexible reportage
  • Vendor accountability

Leverage the Right Technology

We all want to keep our teams happy and make their jobs easy. Yet, with pharmacy staffing shortages breaking records, pharmacies have to ease the burden on overworked staff so they’re ready and able to meet patients’ increasingly complex needs.

Competitive pharmacies use automation to streamline workflows and reduce tedious processes. This eases the burden on staff and lets them get back to serving patients while driving efficiency and greater accountability.

2025 stands to slash pharmacy margins and tax your pharmacy’s time and resources in unexpected ways. But you don’t have to settle for enduring 2025. Join us online on December 4 to see how to thrive amidst all the challenges in the coming year.
